Character Details.
Full name: Bruce Thomas Wayne
Aliases: Batman
Canon from: Batman franchise.
Canon type: Follows the Nolan-verse movies.
Age: 31 (approximate)
Gender: Male
Link to picture of character: Here.

Arrived: Day 8

Character history: Bruce was traumatized at an early age by being witness to his parents murders. Vowing revenge on Joe Chill, the man who killed them, he attempted to kill Chill at his sentencing hearing but was beaten to the punch by criminals who also wanted Chill dead. Disheartened and with the seed of a plan germinating in his mind, Bruce left his home in Gotham City behind and traveled the world in search of answers among the criminals he so loathed.

To fight the criminals, he believed, he would have to understand them. Understanding them meant living among them and as one of them. And so, he traveled Europe and most of Asia, learning skills across the board. Criminal skills like pickpocketing, breaking and entering, evasion, and escape. And the more honorable sets like martial arts, sword play, stealth, and investigation. He studied under Ras Al Ghul and his right-hand man Henri Ducard to learn the ways of the ninja. It was there that he defeated his fear of bats and began to formulate a new plan for his fight against evil.

But, Ras wanted him to kill as a final test of his willingness to execute "true justice". When Bruce refused, the League of Shadows turned on him and he had to fight his way out, setting fire to the building they had lived and trained in. In the process, he believed Ras to have been killed. He brought Ducard to safety, leaving the unconscious man with locals to heal as he made his way back to Gotham.

When he returned home that many years later, he discovered that he was thought to be dead and his father's company had been turned over to the governing board. The slow process of reclaiming his identity and all that belonged to him was coupled with the creation of another, second identity that only he and his trusted butler were aware of: The Batman.

Eventually, help would come also from Lucius Fox, a man once good friends with Bruce's father. Fox, something of a brilliant inventor, gave The Batman the tools he would need to fight the criminal element overtaking their city. He also aided Bruce Wayne in retaking Wayne Enterprises.

Another ally emerged in then Lieutenant and now Commissioner Gordon. Batman pegged Gordon as "one good cop" and the two formed an uneasy alliance to help each other. They began work on battling Carmine Falcone and Gotham's underworld, as well as weeding out the bad cops in the department. The former was successful and the latter, less so. But, it was a start.

It was at this time that Batman would also battle his first masked foe. The Scarecrow was known to the Gotham court system as Doctor Jonathan Crane. The psychologist was instrumental in getting many of Falcone's henchmen out of their deserved jail sentences. It brought him to the attention of assistant Gotham D.A. Rachel Dawes. When she attempted to expose him as a fraud and a mob flunky, Crane revealed himself as the Scarecrow and tried to kill her. Batman's timely arrival saved her life.

Scarecrow, under the influence of his own narcotics, revealed that he had been working for Ras Al Ghul. Initially known to Bruce Wayne as Henri Ducard, Ras Al Ghul had returned to Gotham city to begin what he started years ago with the depression that had turned Gotham into a haven of crime and cost Thomas and Martha Wayne their lives.

After a near catastrophe in the Narrows, Batman managed to stop Ras al Ghul's plan to destroy Gotham city and saw the Scarecrow and Carmine Flacone locked away in Arkham Prison. Ras Al Ghul is thought to have been killed.

Later, when the enthusiastic new D.A. Harvey Dent emerged into the spotlight, Bruce hoped to have a change to retire Batman and let men like Dent take over the hunt for Gotham's criminals, despite Dent engaging in a romantic relationship with Bruce's former love interest, Rachel Dawes. Dent seemed genuinely intent on doing the right thing. For the first time in a long time, Bruce felt hope.

But, the newest plight on the good citizens of Gotham, The Joker, brought that dream to a crashing halt. Joker orchestrated the downfall of Harvey Dent, killing Rachel and breaking down Harvey's mind. Scarred horrifically in an explosion similar to the one that killed Rachel, Harvey began to call himself Two-Face. He went after the people he saw as responsible for Rachel's death: Detective Wuertz, Detective Ramirez, Commissioner Gordon, and Batman. One detective ended up dead and one exposed as a traitor. Gordon's son was very nearly killed, but rescued at the last moment by Batman.

In order to preserve Harvey's image and in the hope that Dent might recover to become the man he once was, Batman convinced Gordon to say that it was Batman and not Dent who had committed Two-Face's crimes. Dent was given his second chance and Batman was made a fugitive from the law once more.

He still patrols the city he loves and fights the criminals on their own turf. But, the strain is beginning to show the cracks.

Character personality: As Bruce Wayne, he is a somewhat vapid, narcissistic, playboy with a taste for easy women, wine, and all things indulgent. He plays the socialite to the nines. He is always seen with a buxom beauty on his arm, a designer suit on his frame, and a new car to arrive in. Most of Gotham's "old money" see him as a disgrace to his father's name and legacy. His most "famous" moment was the apparent drunken burning of his family mansion.

When the mask slips and Batman starts to show through, he becomes intense with lazer focus on his goals. He is driven by the need to find the truth and set wrong things right. Neither pain, fear, nor seeming impossibility will stop him. He pushes ahead until he simply cannot go any further. He does not trust easily and has no real friends, apart from Alfred, Lucius, and Jim.

Physical description: 6' tall. Brown hair, brown eyes. Muscular build. Peak physical condition.
Magical powers or special skills: Superb athlete. Highly trained in various forms of martial arts. A master detective. Expert in the use (and disarmament) of most street level weapons and explosive devices.
Any crimes committed in canon: Vigilantism.
Crime incarcerated into Glaxcin for: Vigilantism and the alleged murder of two Gotham PD officers.

Third-Person Sample: Here.
First-Person Sample: Here.

Watching.

High above the city streets, a shadow moved across rooftops and ledges. The darkness makes it difficult to see. A pedestrian's passing glance might notice the darkness deepen for a split second as the moving shape blocks the light of the stars. But, most never even know he's there.

Gotham city was never completely dark. Never silent. Traffic rumbled on streets that never completely emptied. Glass shattered in alleyways. Stray dogs barked and trash cans tumbled over to roll into buildings. The sounds were cacophony or symphony, depending on the listener.

Unless the listener was the Batman. The night sounds were clues. Data to be sorted and analyzed; some used as leads and others discarded as insignificant. He was always watching. Always listening. Even as he moved, he took it all in. When he was not out tracking a specific quarry, he was patrolling the city.

His patrol path was every bit as deliberate as everything he did. Although, all of Gotham rested under his watchful eye, less hospitable parts of the city received more of his attention than others. Tonight, the clues and cues from the city led him to the docks. Cargo manifests were just one of his informational sources. And they were a source he kept a close watch on. According to his data, no ships should have been arriving with cargo in the bay tonight.

So, the cargo freighter docked at the pier was certainly a point of interest for him. He knelt at the edge of a warehouse roof with a pair of binoculars and watched. Five men were working to unload the ship. Whatever was coming in was loaded into heavy, wooden crates that required a fork lift to move them. There were no outward signs of what was loaded into the crates. He needed a closer look.

---

The rafters above were solid despite their apparent age. Dust had collected in every crevasse and corner, but they didn't creak or groan as he moved. The men working below never heard or saw him as he dropped silently to the floor behind a stack of crates. A spark of light flared to life near the doorway and Batman could clearly see the guard as the man lifted his cigarette to his lips. A match was tossed away -- not toward the cargo, he noted. Unconcerned, but not entirely careless. It also suggested that what was in the crates was valuable.

As did the semi-automatic weapon in the man's other hand.

Batman crouched in the shadows and waited until the rumbling sound of the fork lift returning with another crate would mask the sound of his actions. Then he quickly pried the lid of the nearest crate off with a discarded pry bar. A thick layer of foam rubber was all he could see initially. Once he pulled the foam from the crate, the reason for the secrecy and guard became clear.

Weapons. Of all types. Guns to grenades, along with the requisite ammunition. Whoever had these crates delivered was planning something big. But, they were about to be sorely disappointed.

A sound behind him caught his attention. It was so soft and slight that he'd nearly missed it in his distraction, but at the last possible instant he identified the sound of a hard soled shoe on the rough concrete floor. He was already turning, body curved to avoid the shocked spray of bullets as the second guard stumbled across him. Almost literally. Dumb luck. But, it was bad luck for the gun toting thug. A black booted foot kicked the gun from his hands and Batman's black gloved fist cracked across the thug's jaw.

The first body had not yet hit the floor before Batman heard alarmed shouting from the door. The fork lift operator and the guard from the door came rushing in at the sound of the gunshots. Batman was faster. He leapt up onto a stack of crates and crouched. When the armed man was close enough, Batman jumped from his perch and sailed toward him, planting both feet into the man's chest. The force of impact knocked the man down and sent his gun flying.

Before the man on the ground could be dealt with, the fork lift operator charged at Batman with a large wrench held over head. Metal crashed into concrete as Batman sidestepped the wild swing and the wrench hit the floor. Before it could be lifted again, Batman's boot connected with the overbalanced man's midsection, dropping him to the ground beside his partner. An open hand chop at the base of the skull put him down flat.

Two men were left unaccounted for. Batman stepped over the thugs at his feet and stalked toward the loading door. As he approached the door, a metal object hit the ground in front of him and rolled toward his feet. He had only seconds to react, but seconds were all he needed. Finely honed reflexes were already in motion as he took a step forward to scoop up the grenade and used the momentum from the step to fling it back out of the warehouse. As it sailed away, he dove for cover.

His aim was as true as ever, but his calculation of how much time he had before the grenade exploded was off by a few seconds. As it sailed toward the river, it exploded en route. The fork lift that had been used to unload the ship took the brunt of the explosion. Unfortunately, the blast ruptured the machine's gas tank and caused an even bigger blast that tore a hole in the dock and set fire to some of the surrounding planks.

Unconcerned about himself -- his suit was flame retardant -- he stepped out onto the dock in search of the last two thugs. A handful of small pellets was produced from a compartment on his belt and tossed into the flames. The chemicals wouldn't stop the fire, but they would slow it enough for the authorities to arrive.

A body lay nearby. Batman recognized it as one of the men he was looking for, but just barely. Most of the face had been blown away. A quick check for a pulse told him that there was nothing that could be done for the man. He'd been too near the fork lift when the explosion occurred.

The squeal of tires on asphalt told him where the last man had gone. As he stood and turned, twin circles of light appeared from the darkness. The sedan the headlights belonged to was barreling toward Batman. The face of the man driving was twisted with rage and loathing.

Batman leapt high into the air and sailed over the hood of the car. With an acrobatic twist in midair, he flipped around to grab hold of the top edge of the windshield. Once the driver realized that Batman was on the roof of his vehicle, he began to swerve wildly in an attempt to fling the masked man off. The car plowed recklessly through a chain link fence that surrounded the dock's parking lot. The metal wire cracked and scratched the glass of the windshield mercilessly. It nearly succeeded in scraping off the passenger clinging to the roof as well. But, Batman hung on as the driver -- lacking a clear field of vision -- continued to drive at dangerous speeds.

That is, until he rammed straight into the back of a parked tractor trailer. Batman jumped clear at the last second. He brought his cape up to shield his head as the car burst into flames. Then he stood and surveyed the wreckage. Sirens sounded in the distance. But, they would arrive too late for this one as well. Batman turned and drew a grappling gun from his belt. The hook and cable deployed and he drew himself back up onto the roof and into the shadows.

There might still be time to 'question' the survivors before the police apprehended them. He needed to know if tonight's shipment was the big haul or just one of many. And he needed to know who had imported them. It was now Batman's top priority to find out who the men were working for and put them out of business.
